What is an echocardiogram?
An echocardiogram, or also known as an echo, is an ultrasound of your heart. An echo is done to check on the valves or chambers in your heart. If you have had chest pain or shortness of breath, your doctor may order an echo to check on your heart’s health.
Why is it important to my health?
Your doctor may order an echocardiogram to:
• Look for heart disease
• Monitor heart valve disease over time
• See how well medical or surgical treatments are working
